In related news, the North American Footwear group will now represent Nautilus Footwear west of the Mississippi with Terry Cartony as the regional sales manager. Frank Lancaster has also joined Nautilus as a sales rep for Georgia and Florida. Lancaster was previously with HH Brown.
Grand Imports Inc., Ramsey, N.J., has promoted David Goldman to vice president of international sales, a newly created position. Goldman was previously a salesman with the company.
Pfister & Vogel, Milwaukee, recently appointed the following to its sales staff: David Doyle, most recently a sales representative, was named vice president of sales; Bill Mirecki, previously brand merchandising manager for Florsheim retail stores, was named regional sales manager for the Midwest; Betsey Jordan, most recently chief operating officer at Permair Leathers Inc., was named New England sales manager; and Jim Bowman, also president of Bokay Leathers, will represent Pfister & Vogel in the Midwest and Southwest.
Ames Department Stores Inc., Rocky Hill, Conn., has announced that Joseph Ettore, currently president and chief executive officer, has assumed the additional title and role of chairman of the board.
In other company news, Paul Buxbaum, the retail chain's former chairman, will become chairman of the firm's executive committee.
Davis Now Global Sr. VP
Global Sports Inc., already making a name for itself online, has named Steven Davis to the newly created position of senior vice president of marketing.
According to Davis, the Internet in the future will provide a huge opportunity to sell products related to sports and fitness. He added that he considers Global Sports' connection to reputable 'brick-and-mortar' retailers to be a vital advantage in selling online. The King of Prussia, Pa.,-based firm creates and runs e-commerce operations for retailers such as The Sports Authority and The Athlete's Foot.
'Excitement,' Davis said, '[is] the name of the game.'
He compared the athletic footwear business to the fashion business, saying that specific preferences often cannot be found at retail stores. 'A typical brick-and-mortar store might have 200 styles,' he said, adding that a much broader range of sizes, styles and colors can be offered online.
Mitchell Adds Nike R&D Job
Paul H. Mitchell, president and CEO of Nike's In House Manufacturing subsidiary, has recently added the title of vice president of advanced research and development. He will report to Mark Parker, corporate vice president of Nike Global Footwear.
According to Beaverton, Ore.,-based Nike, Mitchell will be responsible for an aggressive research and development agenda geared toward ensuring consumer satisfaction. He will assist in launching short- and long-term projects aimed at consumers' needs and enhancing the athletic experience.
Mitchell, who has been associated with Nike since the infancy of Nike Air technology in 1980, has played a key role in developing Nike's midsole cushioning technology. He will remain in his roles at Nike's IHM, positions he has held since 1991.
